Have you ever wondered if there is a way to upload files on your PC remotely from anywhere? Actually there is. Turning your own computer into an FTP server is one way to do it. It may sound a bit difficult, but if you have the right software, it turns out to be very easy actually. Some of the solutions appropriate for this job are BulletProof FTP Server and Wing FTP Server. However we are about to use a third one, which is probably the most popular among all. It is called FileZilla Server.

  1. Download and install FileZilla Server .

  2. Run and connect to the server . Enter an administrative password.

Note: If this will be the only FTP server that you are about to administer, please select the Always connect to this server option.

  1. The next step is to create server users. In order to do that navigate to Edit → Users:

4. Click on the Add button.

5. Type in the user name and click on OK.

6. Enter a user password.

7. Add at least one shared folder.

8. Now you are ready to access your FTP server. You can use specialized software in order to do that such as FileZilla Client. However you can also type the address of your server in the Address Bar of Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc. in order to access it. Please be aware that you will need to enter the predefined user name and user password.

9. If you strictly followed our instructions, you should be able to see the shared folder, which we set up in step 7.

This is probably the simplest way to set up your own FTP server on your personal computer. If you need some additional information on this matter please feel free to contact us.
