It's hard to say that XOWA has an interface – basically when you start the program it will open like a web browser displaying Wikipedia, except that it is not a web browser that displays Wikipedia. So in a way the interface of XOWA l looks like Wikipedia. You have a main page, a search engine, menus to the left and one huge window in the middle that displays the information you need, given it's in the database that you have downloaded.

Basic Operations

When run for the first time XOWA will open like a web browser window, displaying a text that looks very much a Wikipedia article. In a few words you will have to setup the program first and download your first database. Once all this is done you can start using this software. Type something you are interested in, hit Search and enjoy the results. Now if we have to be honest we will admit that XOWA did not work for us – after importing the default database nothing happened and not even a single article was displayed although we searched for stuff. Maybe we did something wrong but the feeling that XOWA does not work remains.

XOWA is the embodiment of a great idea – to be able to surf Wikipedia in offline mode. It's not hard to do so using this program – it does not need to be installed, you can import a database and by using the already familiar interface you can read Wikipedia articles with no Internet access. Unfortunately this tool did not work for us for some reason, which does not make it a failure – it may work for you. Who knows?
