Microsoft OneDrive 17.3.1229.0918

When reviewing OneDrive we can talk about two interfaces. The first is the one installed on your local PC. Basically it is a clean screen with the program's name on top. The little arrow next to it allows you to switch between the cloud and the local drive. All the shared files and folders are listed in the center. The context menu at the bottom will show when you right click on the files and folders, something that can be used to manage the selected item. The Sync setting allows you to set the different requirements you may have for your data.

Your web Microsoft OneDrive is the second interface and you can customize how it will look on the web. Switching between the different views can be done by one click only using the icon in the upper right corner. The main control panel button is on the left. The Create, Upload, Open, Share etc are next to it. There is a search box on the left side and tabs for the different categories. All what you have stored on your drive is shown in the middle and to the right – the properties of the selected item. Everything can be sorted by name, date, size, in ascending or descending order. The Close and the Download buttons are placed in the bottom right corner. There are also links for the Recycle Bin, to manage the storage, and to get more OneDrive apps.

Basic Operations

To add files or folders using desktop Microsoft OneDrive, you have to right-click on the empty screen and select Add items. Users can click on the arrow next to the name of the program and choose This PC to see the files on the local PC. The bottom line also has icons for New folder, Add items, Open with, Delete etc. Setting the PC settings the way you want allows everyone to set what and when to happen, but only if permitted. Of course, you can operate with your OneDrive with the local Windows Explorer. There you will see a separate icon group with the application's name. Remember, that in this mode you have to copy your files from their original location to get them there.

Using the web based OneDrive is no different than the local. Users can click Sharing, from the top navigation bar, and follow the steps to send a link to an email, post it to the social networks, or keep the link, which others can use to get access to the files and the folders. If you right click on any of the listed items, the populated context menu gives you the options to Download, Share, Rename, Delete etc. If you left click over any item, your cloud based app will open it, if exists.

All in all Microsoft OneDrive is a great service. Using it, you never have to worry about forgetting anything at work or at home. Free your files and access them anywhere, from any device and at any time as long, as you have Internet access. OneDrive is much better, compared to other alternatives like Google Drive, iCloud and Dropbox. We tested it and stayed with a mouth open for a while, amazed by what it is capable. Finally, good job Microsoft, good job!
